There was once a man called Pourangahua. He was leaving his homeland and travelling to an island called Hawaiiki. He travelled to see his friends. His friend was eating sweet potato. He stayed there for many months. He was greeted by the Chief called Raukapanga. When it was time to go home he asked if he could borrow some birds. He flew home on the back of the birds with some kumara. He did not look after the birds so Pourangahua sent some caterpillars to destroy the kumara plot.
